Fishing up-date 11/22/2014

19 mph out of the ENE & gusting to 22mph, So if you are wishin to go on the Harbor it is Ponce de leon park ramp for you, But I would make sure you could get through Poachers cut on the back of the PGI rim canal, With the wind from the ENE the east side of the harbor is protected from the major wave but sometimes getting from Aligator creek to mangrove point can get really sloppy/dangerous for smaller boats, The high tide at 4 will be at about a 1.3 subtract 10 inches of water for the wind and you get a .05 So there will not be much water in poachers cut, I would say about 16 inches,
If you decide to venture out along the bar on the east side the Trout are plentiful best way to find them is to troll a 14 Bomber on one rod and a curl tail jig on the other, Stay in 4-5 feet of water when you get a hit stop and just cast with the rods you were trolling with, There is also Bonnet Sharks and Some Pompano there to play with. Be safe you can see Poachers cut on this link http://www.fishinfranks.com/poachers_cut.htm

Fishin up-date 11/21/14

Snook at El-jo using a 4 to 5 inch Storm bunker, fishin right next to the pilings big Snook mostly over slot fish are the normal catch, and if you send a couple of hours you should catch several and find your slot Snook,
Small Rat reds have just appeared every where on the flats, these little bait thieves are a lot of fun and they love Shrimp, So east side or west, if you start catching small ones do not think if you keep fishing there you will find a big one, these reds hatched together and are all part of the same school, you will have to move to find bigger fish, The same for the Trout they will all be within an inch of the fist one you catch,

More and more talk about Trout, The cooler water is really bring the Spotted Trout onto the flats, Poppin corks with jigs seem to be the ticket, wether it is a Buck-tail or a Soft plastic, Best color So far Yellow, Bobber jigging is an old technique, instead of you jigging the rod, Put a jig about 2 feet below a bobber and let the wave action move the bobber up & down which in turn makes the jig [ Jig ] move up & down, The Trout seem to think this is candy. Good luck out there

Fishing Up-Date 11/08/2014

Gulf water temps 73 off Tampa, 72 degrees here, 77 off Naples,
This is what I look for for Kings & Spanish mackerel,
When the Water is in the 70’s The Sea Trout move in, The Red Fish are in greater numbers in the upper Harbor, and The Fish are now 50/50 White bait or Shrimp,
I hate throwing cast net for bait, too much time, I would rather be fishin.
So the flats on the west and East side have plenty of Trout, Reds, or Snook, and just enough of every thing else to keep you surprised.

I don’t see why? Crazy is just a state of mind,
and I don’t see the resemblance anyway.

Beachy

Yesterday we spent the afternoon hanging out on the gulf beaches of Boca Grande. We’ve had some mild temps recently, making our beaches much more enjoyable than our steamy summer months.

For bait we were using some pinfish we cast netted. If your location is scarce on bait you can always try dry and pellet chum on calmer days to call them into the shoreline. Yesterday we were using super shrimp pellets and they did the job for us! While gathering bait we noticed a surprise in the cast net. A juvenile permit! Released after a quick snapshot.

We were hoping for some snook or larger redfish to swim by, but things got pretty sharky instead! Catching 2-3 blacktip sharks thought the day. These are so much fun to catch on smaller tackle and always a hit with the kids! Becareful and watch your fingers, smaller sharks are the most rambunctious.

Have a great weekend! Tight lines.
