Rainy day and feels energizing

I am Crazy or does the wind and the cloudy weather feel some how energizing? Yes I find on a morning like this with the clouds, wind, and looming rain I have to stand out side. and something about the feel of it just, well helps me remember I am alive. maybe it is a fighting instinct, like being on a boat knowing you will not make it back before the storm or on a walk. and you get prepared to do battle with the storm. Even quite possible a sense of fear. impending destruction. Hard to forget Charley. But it just could be a wonderful feeling of, I am alive and here to feel and witness. What ever the meaning or cause. I took time this morning to stand in the wind cup the lighter against the wind to light a smoke, and finish my coffee my Coffee standing in the mist and wind.

Hi fisher type peoples. Here is the how to on Red fish
it would seem if you are on the east side or Turtle bay/ bull bay
It is all about pin fish, with a twist sort of, Not live Pin fish really . there is more to it. If you are out early in the day, You want to use cut bait, put more simply, cut the Pin fish into chunks and toss it out with a hook and a split shot #2 size and just let it sit. Once the Sun gets up after about 10:30 now you should switch to Live Pin fish. first change to a Rock port rattler jig head, and then remove the fan part of the tail from the Pin Fish. This will make the pin fish try to swim away with the Jig head but with no tail it just makes a lot of noise. and the Pin fish trying to swim away makes the rattle in the jig head sound off. For best effect use the Red fish Sunday method, where you put the hook through the back of the fish just below the dorsal fin.
This seems to work the best.  Let the Bait sit for 20 to 30 seconds then lift the tip of your rod sharply up and then down and tighten the slack in the line. Repeat.

Now if you are going to start your day on the western shore line, the sun comes up in the east and starts warming that shore up first, I would use a shrimp with a #7 split shot and about a 2/0 hook cast it right into the mouth of a creek trying to get as close under the mangrove branches as possible or right at the drip line of the trees, the Reds have been laying right there and will eat a Shrimp in a heart beat, If a heart beat is really slow and takes a while. Yes this cooler / cold water has slowed everything to a crawl, I would not “Move the shrimp I would however just slide it about 4 to 6 inches every 2 minutes or so.

Good luck

Fishi Frank

Beach fishing for whiting and Flounder is good right now, Shrimp on the bottom thee are a lot of ways to rig up, but on the bottom with a bouce every once in a while is the tried and true. Live or dead shrimp both really it does not seem to matter which one you choose.

The east side of Charlotte Harbor has seen the return of Flounder here in the last week or so, along with the Pompano,

Trout and Red fish, Yes you can catch them but if you are fishing in water that is more than 5 foot deep, Use A jig head and hook the Shrimp on through
the tail, first removing the fan part, then thread the hook into the tail. make sure the point of the hook is on the top side of the shrimp, cast out let it hit the bottom, wait 10 seconds then sharply lift you rod tip and jerk back a little. Make it hop.

With the Rat-L-trap it is almost the same except it is figuring about 1.5 feet per second fall rate with a 1/2 once rat-l-trap try to get it very close if not on the bottom then lift your rod tip sharply about 2 feet and let the rod tip fall back down making the rat-L-trap { Flutter } its way to the bottom.

These two styles are really kickin fish butt right now
Good Luck

Jacks and Blues!

Are you cold?! The fish are warmer than we are taking refuge from this blustery weather in our local canals! Early morning the jacks are loving the top water lures in almost any color. It’s a beautiful adrenaline pumping moment when the school of fish start boiling to chase your lure! These jacks were pretty large and a blast to catch! Raygin pictured below learned how to work topwater to catch her’s. Rewarding to see their face light up when they hook their catch. A “yay I did it moment”
Gold spoons are still getting the job done quite nicely along with various Rapala lures. Snapper are loving gulp thrown under socks on jig heads. Our client Steve also hooked up on some pretty large blue fish mixed in with the jacks! Lots of double hooks ups this trip, and lots of smiles. I’m not sure how these fish will respond to this REALLY chilly cold front headed our way this weekend. If I were you I’d hide in canals with frozen shrimp and artificial’s! Tight lines stay warm!

Pompano and Flounder can be caught from the beaches. From Venice to Sanibel Island, 5th street on Boca is a good place to look for Flounder and 15th st. has been good on Pompano. But really any beach front is a good place to try.
these are Banana Jig known as Crazy or Silly which started its life as a Walleye jig back in the 1970’s and became a huge salt water lure,
In salty water for flounder or Pompano. To try for both species with a single lure you should vary your Casting style. One cast should be to keep the lure up in the water with a side ways jigging motion, This works best on Pompano moderate to fast retrieve.
For the Flounder the lure should bounce off the bottom lifting the rod tip to make the lure move in an up & down motion. Slow to moderate retrieve.

Banana Jigs may be used with or with out the teasers, I prefer the ones with the feather teaser on it like the picture on the left. But I have some customers who swear by the plain jig They say it has a better hook up ratio. You decide the are not expensive So getting both will not break the bank. At just over $2.

Good luck and have a little fun, keep in mind fish is healthy food, but filling a freezer is just not right,
Catch ya again later 🙂
